Treating your property in Merthyr Tydfil

Japanese knotweed infestations come in all shapes and sizes and it’s safe to say that after 15 years we have pretty much seen it all.

But each knotweed problem is different and we pride ourselves in always finding a bespoke solution to your individual problem.

We asked our lead surveyor James for his recollections of his last treatment in Merthyr.

“In early summer, I was called out to survey an infestation in a potential building plot joined to a pub.

The infestation was very strong, covered all of the plot and was encroaching into the pub garden and the domestic gardens to the rear and on the other side.

The knotweed has already been treated by the owner’s friend (way too early in the season which doesn’t help) but I could see it was a sub-standard treatment because the knotweed was only damaged and has recovered.

There are building materials stored all over the land which are preventing some growth but I advise them not to move them until the knotweed has been treated this year.

I also advised the owner to approach the neighbours to get permission to treat the land next door.

We visited again in the autumn and treat the knotweed in the plot and the neighbouring gardens. The treatment will be less effective due to the premature treatment by the owner’s friend but is still worth doing.

When we returned to survey the following spring, some of the building materials had been removed, so we contacted the owner to see if we could get some more moved before the knotweed grows too much more which would prevent them removing any more materials without damaging the knotweed.

We returned again in the autumn and applied a treatment to the infestation which is only slightly weaker than in the previous year.

This time, when we return the next year in early summer, the infestation has retreated back from the boundaries 1-2m, the growth is only 40% as dense as previously and the individual canes are much shorter than at the same time in year 1.

The story is the same when we come back in the autumn to treat it again, plants at around 30 to 40% of the expected size and density….can’t wait to see it next year!”
