Reynoutria Japonica, Fallopia Japonica, Polygonum Cuspidatum and Asian Knotweed are some of the aliases for the highly invasive and problematic Japanese Knotweed which has now become such a major problem in the UK that it is now considered illegal to allow it or cause it to spread in the wild.
It is legal to have it on your property but you must be very careful not to allow it to spread into surrounding properties or areas.
Some records state that Japanese Knotweed was first imported from Japan in the 1820’s by a collector working for the East India Company as a robust ornamental that became popular commercially throughout the UK.
The problems with Japanese Knotweed started to arise because of it’s incredibly invasive and fast spreading rhizomes or roots. These can spread far from the host plant and are incredibly strong and resilient able to find, exploit and push up through any weaknesses in surrounding structures such as drives, patios, garages and outhouses, even walls and foundations.
These roots can penetrate concrete and if left unchecked can spread far beyond their boundaries causing potential legal issues with neighbours and surrounding properties so professional advice is imperative if you suspect the presence of knotweed on your property as it can also only be disposed of at specially licensed facilities.
Although treatment and removal of Japanese Knotweed is not necessarily a simple and easy task, with the correct fast acting steps it need not spread to become a bigger and more costly issue.
With all invasive weeds, acting quickly and professionally is the key and Japanese Knotweed is no different.
Our friendly and service invasive weed removal service is tailored specifically to you and your needs and we pride ourselves on the personal touch.
