Japanese Knotweed
Japanese Knotweed ( Fallopia Japonica ) was first introduced to the UK in 1850 as an ornamental plant imported to London’s Kew Gardens.
A highly invasive plant native to Asia it is now listed under Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 meaning it’s an offense to plant or cause it to grow in the wild.
Japanese Knotweed has become so problematic in the UK and indeed worldwide due to it’s fast spreading nature and sturdy rhizome network that spreads far from the host plant if left untreated.
It’s roots are capable of exploiting any weaknesses or gaps in concrete and brick structures such as patios, driveways and walls whether it is on your own or neighbouring properties.
If left untreated Japanese Knotweed can cause legal problems with neighbours and surrounding properties so if you do suspect the presence of Japanese Knotweed on your property it is crucial to get professional advice as soon as possible.

“We instructed Clearsafe to survey a client’s property on behalf of a purchaser who needed to obtain a mortgage with Japanese Knotweed growing on neighbouring land. Clearsafe took the time to visit the same day and provided a report within 24 hours. The purchaser was extremely satisfied with Clearsafe’s efficient manner and the costs were very competitive. As an estate agent, this service is invaluable and we would not hesitate to recommend Clearsafe – Keep up the good work!”
