Do
- Do contact a qualified registered invasive weed/Japanese Knotweed contractor without delay.
- Do make all users of the land aware of the infestation and the dos and don’ts
- Do keep human and pet activities to an absolute minimum around the Japanese Knotweed infestation, any Japanese Knotweed plant material found on the floor outside the infestation can be deposited back in the infestation area.
- Do check soles of footwear and clothing when leaving the Japanese Knotweed area for plant debris, dispose of any debris found back in the infested area.
- Do where possible, erect barriers and signage to prevent access to the infestation.
- Do bring the infestation under control using a professional management/treatment plan supported by an insurance backed guarantee.
Don’t
- Don’t attempt to dig up or cut down Japanese Knotweed, we need something to apply the herbicide to.
- Don’t mow or strim near Japanese knotweed, you will only risk spreading the infestation more widely..
- Don’t move soils or any other debris from the infestation site, they may contain Japanese knotweed material that is capable of regrowth and spread the infestation.
- Don’t attempt to burn the infestation, this will only target the above ground growth and do nothing to the root (rhizome) which is the key to the plant’s amazing ability to survive.
- Don’t attempt chemical or herbicide treatment yourself, without the experience and knowledge of this plant the chances are you will not kill it, instead causing stunted growth (bonsai) or worse dormancy, giving the impression of a successful treatment, only to re-emerge years later. Dormant plants also mean a delay to us being able to start effective treatment.
- Don’t ignore Japanese Knotweed, the problem will only get worse, cause more damage and become more costly to fix.
